Freshman Band - All incoming 9th grade band members will be enrolled in this ensemble. The only exceptions would be a 9th grader that is in the jazz band class, or a situation where there is a strong need for specific instrumentation in one of the other ensembles. Students in the Freshman Band may choose not to participate in the marching band. Students choosing to participate in the marching band will satisfy the pre-requisite for future entry into the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and/or Jazz Band. The grading for this class will include a practice grade for all 4 quarters of the school year except for the first 9 weeks for marching band members. Aside from the jazz band, 9th graders will all be in the same band class.

Symphonic Band – This band is comprised of students that are in grades 10 through 12. Any student in this band that does not participate in marching band is required to perform in a fall semester recital. Freshmen should not be enrolled in this class unless there is a major schedule conflict. There is NO LONGER a pre-requisite of any amount of marching band participation for eligibility in this class.

Wind Ensemble – This is the top ensemble in the band department. It includes 10th, 11th, and 12th graders and has a one-year pre-requisite of marching band. Entrance into this band is by audition only. Once a student has participated in at least one year of marching band, there is a first nine weeks alternative to the marching band requirement which includes a practice grade and the performance of a Group 1 solo at the fall recital. Marching band participants will satisfy the practice grade requirement automatically during the first nine weeks.

Jazz Ensemble - This is an auditioned ensemble and will consist mostly of 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. There is a one-year pre-requisite of marching band. It is possible for an incoming 9th grader to be a member of the jazz band. Auditions will take place annually the week prior to spring break. Audition music will become available on March 1st.

Percussion Class – This class is for all percussionists that are in the marching band. Any exceptions to this must perform a solo at the fall recital.

Screamin’ Eagle Pep Band – All members of the band department participate in the basketball pep band. There will be a pep band at all home varsity basketball games with the exception of games scheduled during vacation time.
