What are Student Accounts?
ZBOP established student accounts to encourage student participation in many of the fund raising activities that take place during the school year. When a student participates in a student account fundraiser, a portion of the money raised is designated by ZBOP to be held in escrow in the student’s individual student account. These funds may be used to help defray some of the expenses associated with band and orchestra participation. An account will be started the first time a student participates in a student account fundraiser. Parent participation in student account fundraising activities is on a volunteer basis; anything sold while working a "back to school" table or similar situation, volunteering for Market Day, etc., defaults to the ZBOP general fund.
How are Student Accounts Used?
When a Student Account has available funds, those funds may be used to pay: 1.) Yearly fees for Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Color Guard, Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, OR 2.) band or orchestra trips. OR 3.) Fees for Honor Ensembles or camps organized by Music For All, Indiana Bandmaster's Association (IBA), IMEA, American String Teacher's Association (ASTA), Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. These are the only two items for which student accounts may be used. A student may not use his or her account to pay for any item that becomes the property of that student-the only exception being color guard or winter percussion uniforms. A student must be in good standing with fees before student account funds will be disbursed for trips. Additionally, instrumental music fees will not be advanced in anticipation of repayment being made via fundraising efforts by a student throughout the upcoming school year.
Student Accounts are NOT:
These accounts are not a bank account belonging to the student or to the student’s family. The money earned may only be used for specified band or orchestra expenses. When a student no longer participates in band or orchestra, any funds remaining in his/her account may not be disbursed to that family or student in any way, even for use in another school activity. Funds remain entirely the property of ZBOP.
What happens to the money left in an account?
If a student graduates or leaves the band or orchestra program for any reason, and there is still money in his/her account, the student may designate that the funds be transferred to a sibling’s current or future student account. The funds will be held for up to 2 years, after which time any remaining balance reverts to the ZBOP general fund.
* It is he student's (or family's) responsibility to request a transfer of funds to a sibling account.
